“Vesuvius in the box” by Gennaro Regina

THE MULTIMEDIA VESUVIUS BY GENNARO REGINA

ON SHOW AT THE MAV IN ERCOLANO

“Vesuvius in the box” is the title of the multimedia art exhibition created by the artist Gennaro Regina at the MAV, Virtual Archaeological Museum of Herculaneum , from 11 July to 30 September 2019: 22 works, a series of short films, a video installation on a 60 square meter LED wall to tell the story of the volcano most represented in world iconography. It promises to be a unique cultural event: Vesuvius on display at the slopes of Vesuvius, as it has never been seen.

Summer 2019 marks the 1940th anniversary of the disastrous eruption of 79 AD which buried Pompeii, Herculaneum, Stabiae and Oplontis; on this occasion, the MAV of Ercolano organizes an exhibition of the works of the Neapolitan artist in an original installation in which the languages of contemporary painting merge with those of digital storytelling, giving life to an innovative multimedia art installation.

In her Works Regina reconstructs a powerful history with the awareness of those who know the past and have studied it out of personal passion and family tradition (Voyage Pittoresque is the name of the Factory within which she creates her works: www.gennaroregina. com ).

Visitors to the exhibition will be led into the Box, an architectural structure that is an integral part of the artist's representation.

“Explosive like Vesuvius, which has become his trademark, his unmistakable signature, his lucky charm, Gennaro Regina is a three-footed volcano of ideas: one remembers the past, the other is firmly planted in the present, the third walks law in the future” writes the curator of the exhibition Luca Beatrice in the catalogue.

Regina “has a sense of superstitious irony when she foresees the eruption of words of protest, lucky objects, rivers of wine, faces of famous people from the cone of the volcano. He has the courage and talent of pop narration” writes Luigi Vicinanza, president of the CIVES – MAV Foundation of Ercolano, who strongly wanted the exhibition.

The exhibition is organized with the support of Scabec, the Campania cultural heritage society, and the Campania Region.

Vernissage Thursday 11 July 2019 / 6.30 pm

MAV of Ercolano, via IV Novembre 44 www.museomav.it

Until 30 September 2019 (from Monday to Sunday – from 10.00 to 18.30).

The exhibition exceeded 12,500 visitors.

The exhibition has been extended until Friday 11 October to satisfy the numerous requests received by the museum. With a surprise; in fact, on the occasion of the finissage of the exhibition, on 11 October, the Space Gallery of the Mav will be transformed into an artist's atelier and will host the live performance of the maestro Regina: the artist will show live how one of his works is born; once the painting is finished, the painting will be donated by Gennaro Regina himself to the Mav, the first piece - hopefully - of a collection of contemporary art in the Herculaneum museum. “It is a happy moment for the Mav – declares Luigi Vicinanza, president of the Cives Foundation which manages the Museum – Compared to last year we are recording an increase in visitors while the collaboration with Scabec and the Campania Region is becoming more and more intense and profitable.

By the end of the year we expect further technological advancement of the museum's digital equipment. Together with a spectacular, large-scale event whose details we are defining in recent days."

An evening of art and music, therefore, on Friday 11 October. An event dedicated to Vesuvius whose forms will relive in the gesture of Regina who, in a 'fight' with the most famous "mountain" in the world, will tell of its suggestions, its evocation of extraordinary power, its obsession.

Furthermore, the conclusion of the exhibition is part of the program of the Mav open week, from 9 to 16 October, with free visits and workshops for all schools of all levels. An initiative with the aim of launching the museum's new educational proposals for the 2019-2020 school year. A week that will allow us to shorten the distances between the museum, the cultural heritage and citizens large and small.

The “Vesuvio in the Box” exhibition is part of the program of events and appointments of Open>Art Campania organized by the Scabec Regione Campania.
